The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) will offer a total of 130-MW of renewable energy capacity in 2015 through power-purchasing programs.
“Our strategy is to add renewable capacity in a thoughtful and deliberate manner – one that shifts capacity to the least costly programs and reduces incentives to better reflect the declining cost-to-generate,” said Patty West, director of TVA’s Renewable Energy Solutions. “Steps such as these will help us in our ongoing mission to grow renewable energy capacity while also contributing to lower rates for energy consumers across the region.”
The additional capacity is consistent with TVA’s long-term energy strategy, the 2011 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). TVA is currently revising the IRP, which is expected to be complete in late 2015.
TVA renewable portfolio includes 217-MW of operating or committed solar projects under contract, 1,542-MW from wind, and 64-MW from biomass.
