Norway as well as Ukraine have signed a complete energy cooperation agreement that covers renewable energy, power markets, gas, as well as networks.
It is worth noting that the Russia war has destroyed quite a large part of the country’s energy infrastructure, and apart from the military support, the country happens to be in a very desperate need for additional as well as immediate support for its energy sector.
The agreement goes on to help the Norwegian businesses go ahead and support the recovery as well as the rebuilding of energy infrastructure and the buildout of renewables in Ukraine.
This new energy agreement between the Ukrainian as well as Norwegian ministries of energy was signed by Cecilie Myrseth, the minister of trade and industry, and Herman Halushchenko, the minister of energy from Ukraine, when they met on June 10, 2024, in Berlin.
The President of Ukraine, Zelensky, has stressed that Ukraine would like to have closer cooperation with businesses in Norway. This is indeed a message that the Norwegian government would not like to ignore at all.
As per Myrseth, they are going to contribute to go ahead and facilitate close as well as constructive cooperation between the businesses, authorities, and civil society in Ukraine. It is well to be noted that the MoU between Ukraine and Norway, which happens to cover areas from the energy sector such as renewable energy as well as the operation of power markets, happen to be the areas where Norway happens to have expertise.
Terje Aasland, the Minister of Energy from Norway, said that this agreement is going to be a good supplement to other endeavours, such as donations when it comes to technical equipment that the Norwegian Power and Grid companies have gone on to contribute since 2022.
