MHI Vestas will host Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Energy Minister Lars Christian Lilleholt, and Mayor Hans Luunbjerg for factory tour and discussion of the Danish offshore wind energy market.
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind executives will meet today with the Danish Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the Energy Minister, Lars Christian Lilleholt, and the Mayor of Kerteminde, Hans Luunbjerg, at the company’s growing nacelle factory in Lindø.
The visit comes after the company has hired 284 new employees at industrial facilities across regional Denmark since March 2017, including Lindø, a blade manufacturing facility in Nakskov, and new power converter module assembly site in Esbjerg.
MHI Vestas Chief Executive Officer, Jens Tommerup, said, “We are very proud to host the Danish Prime Minister and other distinguished guests today at our factory. The highly skilled men and women who are employed at our production facilities throughout regional Denmark are a big part of Denmark’s success in offshore wind – an industry that is becoming increasingly global.”
MHI Vestas’ job growth in regional Denmark this year came as a result of tremendous demand for the turbine manufacturer’s V164 platform, which has a current power rating of 9.5 MW, the most powerful turbine in the world. The employment surge also reflects the company’s commitment to highly-skilled, local, manufacturing jobs and to the economic development of those regions.
The high-level visit to Lindø comes against the backdrop of recent offshore wind developments in the US and across Asia as major market entrants adopt offshore wind technologies and lay the groundwork for local supply chains, rapidly transforming the sector from a Northern European hub into a burgeoning global industry.
