Renewable Energy Systems (RES), a leader in the development, engineering, construction, and operations of wind, solar, transmission, and energy storage projects in the Americas, is pleased to announce the construction completion for the Lamesa Solar Facility in Dawson County, TX.
In mid-2015 RES entered into a joint development agreement with and later acquired the project from BNB Renewable Energy Holdings, the project’s originating developer, to complete the project. Then RES sold the project in July 2016 to Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company. During construction, RES was the engineering, procurement and construction contractor (EPC) and will now serve as the operations and maintenance contractor for the now operational facility.
Lamesa Solar, comprised of 410,000 photovoltaic solar panels, has a nameplate capacity of 102 megawatts (MW). The project is located on 887 acres in Dawson County, TX between Midland and Lubbock.
In an effort to be good stewards of our environment and community, RES pursued recycling techniques in order to minimize overall waste generation on the project with over 600,000 pounds of cardboard and wood being reused or recycled. The RES team was also an active participant in local service and community outreach activities.
“Lamesa Solar is a tremendous example of RES’ ability to advance a project from concept to commercial operation,” stated Sean Rooney, VP Solar Construction for RES in the Americas. “Southern Power has served as a valuable project partner with Lamesa and we look forward to working alongside of them in future endeavors.”
RES recently announced a joint development agreement with Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power, to develop and construct approximately 3,000 megawatts (MW) of wind power across 10 projects located in various regions within the United States. All projects are expected to achieve commercial operation between 2018 and 2020.
Lamesa Solar is the thirteenth solar energy project that RES has constructed in the Americas. RES completed two other projects in Texas that include Alamo 1, a 41MW project in San Antonio and Webberville Solar, a 30MW project located in Travis County outside of Austin.
