In its second year being recognized, Southern Company rose two spots to No. 44 on DiversityInc’s Top 50 Companies for Diversity list. Southern Company was also named the No. 1 Company for Progress and No. 5 among the Top 10 Companies for Veterans at the announcement dinner in New York City on May 2.
“At Southern Company, we are committed to the notion that true diversity refers not only to diversity of human attributes, but also diversity of thought and cultural perspective,” said Nancy Sykes, chief human resources officer for Southern Company Services.
According to DiversityInc, Southern Company rose in the rankings this year due to a “commitment to diversity and inclusion.” The publication lauded Southern Company for diversity among its team of managers and Board of Directors, as well as participation and openness of employee resource groups, which DiversityInc notes are now open to more employees than ever, including multigenerational, young professionals, African Americans, women, LGBTQ, new hires and veterans.
Derived from corporate survey submissions, DiversityInc’s survey assesses U.S. employers’ diversity management performance based on talent pipeline, talent development, leadership accountability and supplier diversity.
