Areva has signed an agreement to provide service and maintenance for its six 5MW wind turbines at the Alpha Ventus offshore wind farm in Germany.
The new five-year deal has been signed by Areva with the project-operating consortium DOTI (Deutsche Offshore-Testfeld und Infrastruktur).
This contract is an extension of the previous maintenance agreement for the M5000-116 turbines at the laboratory.
As well as maintenance, Areva will be responsible for the turbine inspections and exchange of wearing parts.
The power firm’s monitoring centre in Bremerhaven, Germany, will monitor the units at the wind farm throughout the year.
Areva’s service team from Emden, Germany, will offer the required services at the facility, the company said.
Alpha ventus is the first offshore wind project for Germany. Located 45km off the island of Borkum, the farm presently generates power for 70,000 homes.
DOTI managing director Wilfried Hube said: “EWE, E.ON and Vattenfall have four offshore wind farms in operation or under construction in the North Sea.
“Alpha ventus is the project which pioneered this development, in cooperation with AREVA.
“The pursuit of collaboration with local suppliers also secures jobs in German coastal regions.”
AREVA wind business unit CEO Arnaud Bellanger said: “The DOTI’s continued confidence in our expertise is source of pride.
“The experience gained at alpha ventus will give us an important advantage for the maintenance of our entire offshore installed base in Germany.”
