Spanish Iberdrola started the construction of three wind farms in Greece after securing electricity tariffs there in the July auction. The combined capacity of 98.1 MW is scheduled to be connected to the grid in 2022.
Iberdrola, which already has more than 300 MW in installed capacity in Greece, started the construction of three wind farms there, Energypress reported. The Spanish energy utility’s projects with 98.1 MW in total secured electricity tariffs in the renewable energy auction held in July.
Iberdrola to install 81.6 MW in northern Greece Sites for two of the wind power plants are in northern Greece, in the Western Macedonia region. The Askio II system, of 33.6 MW, will be built in Kozani, and the Askio III in Kastoria has 48 MW.
Two of the projects are located in Northern Greece and the third one is in the island of Evia Iberdrola’s Rokani wind park project is for 16.5 MW. It is under construction in Evia, or Euboea. Located north of Athens, it is Greece’s second-largest island.
Country portfolio rising to 415 MW
The three wind farms are scheduled to come online in 2022, which would boost the company’s portfolio of installed power plants in the country to 415 MW. There is 3.83 GW in active wind parks in Greece.
Iberdrola operates a combined 32.7 GW in renewables and its portfolio of projects in the sector exceeded 58 GW as of July. The Spanish electricity producer earmarked EUR 10 billion for investments this year in green energy, smart grids and large energy storage facilities.
The latest data shows Iberdrola has a portfolio of installed renewable energy projects of 32.7 GW in total. In the region tracked by Balkan Green Energy News, it operates also in Romania and Cyprus, where it operates the 20 MW Agia Anna wind farm. The firm’s renewables subsidiary is called Iberdrola Renovables.
Iberdrola was among the winners last month at a solar power auction in Portugal, where the world’s lowest electricity tariff so far was accepted. It secured projects of an overall 90 MW.
