Brazil’s demand for electricity has increased almost 200% in 30 years, according to the Ministry of Mines and Energy. Especially, distributed generation is driving momentum in the Brazilian market since the sale of surplus power has been exempted from taxes in 23 states across Brazil. In particular, the Northeast has excellent conditions for strong solar deployments.
Latest trends in policies, market development and technology have been in the spotlight at the Intersolar Summit Brasil Nordeste that brought together more than 1.000 professionals to share knowledge, experiences and present their products, technologies and services in solar PV in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil.
Best natural conditions, low prices for property and forward thinking policies are outstanding in Brazil’s Northeast in comparison to other regions. According to the goals of the Fortaleza 2040 Plan the city is planning to occupy 10% of its roofs with solar panels, in addition to becoming energy self-sufficient by 2040.
The role of solar PV in the Northeast and in the operation of the electricity matrix in Brazil is rising continuously with strong potential on the free energy market, especially under hourly electricity prices and challenges on the O&M of projects. Promising initiatives are under way: In the Rio São Francisco Project (PISF), the use of solar PV by the navy, rural applications, projects with universities, as well as solar PV integrated into products of our daily lives, such as roof tiles, umbrellas and backpacks.
The Intersolar Summit Brasil Nordeste, taken place on April 10 -11, 2019 in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, had a laser focus on all current developments. The event included a two-day conference with high-level content specially provided by the Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association (ABSOLAR), the national entity representing the solar PV sector in Brazil.
More than 300 attendees gathered to learn from a broad range of speakers, including authorities from the federal government, the national regulatory agency (ANEEL), as well as the governments of the host state of Ceará and the host municipality of Fortaleza. Public and private financial institutions also joined the conference on a dynamic debate to share their experiences with the technology as well as new ideas to facilitate access to credit lines for small, medium and large-scale solar PV projects.
Intersolar will be back in Brazil in August 2019 when Intersolar South America – Latin America’s largest exhibition and conference for the solar industry – will open its doors from August 27- 29, 2019 at São Paulo’s Expo Center Norte. Intersolar South America is part of The smarter E South America – LATAM’s innovation hub for the new energy world.
