ACCIONA Energía is taking part in the Energy & Mines seminar in Chile

ACCIONA is present at the Energy & Mines seminar being held today and tomorrow in the Hotel Sheraton in Santiago, attended by key figures from the mining and energy sectors. During the forum, the Company’s Energy Management Director Lionel Roa will present ACCIONA’s extensive experience as a world leader in renewable energies.
Within the complex context of the mining sector in Chile due to high energy prices and a fall in the value of copper, the role of renewable energies has become a fundamental alternative for reducing costs and guaranteeing electricity supplies to mining installations.

ACCIONA Energía is a world leader in renewables, with a unique and competitive profile that enables it to comply with the demanding requirements of mining sector clients, which need continuous power supplies for their operations. The right mix of renewable energies means that these requirements can be covered in a reliable and sustainable way.
With a track record of over 20 years in the renewable sector worldwide, ACCIONA Energía will present the experience accumulated in more than 15 countries where it operates in Energy & Mines. In Chile, where it has been present since 2006, it now owns a 45-megawatt wind farm (Punta Palmeras, in the region of Coquimbo) and has a number of wind power and photovoltaic projects at different levels of development.

The most notable of these is the El Romero photovoltaic plant (247 MWp / 196 MW rated power), currently under construction. Located in the municipality of Vallenar (Atacama region), it is the biggest of its type in Latin America and one of the ten biggest in the world using this technology. It will begin the start-up phase in the last trimester of 2016 and will be fully operational in mid-2017.

ACCIONA, through its long-term commitment to its clients and the Chilean electric power market, aims to be a benchmark company in the development of renewables in the country in the coming years.

The talk by Lionel Roa will take place on Tuesday 17 May at 16:00 hours as part of the panel titled “Evaluating renewable options for new or existing facilities”. He will explain how high electricity prices and supply challenges are harming the competitiveness of the mining sector. It is precisely in this context that renewable energy sources assume a key role as an option for reducing costs and guaranteeing supplies in a secure way while also caring for the environment.
