EDF Renewable Energy’s 161-MW Spinning Spur II Wind Project in Texas has entered commercial operation.
The site consists of 87 GE 1.85-MW, 87-meter rotor wind turbines. Energy produced is sold under an 11-year power purchase agreement.
“EDF RE will retain substantial ownership in the facility and bring our expertise in operations and maintenance through EDF Renewable Services to optimize long-term investment profitability,” said Tristan Grimbert, president and CEO of EDF Renewable Energy.
According to the U.S. Energy Environmental Protection Agency, the wind farm will avoid approximately 332,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
EDF Renewable Services will provide operations and maintenance for the facility and remote monitoring from its NERC compliant Operations Control Center (OCC).
Construction began in June 2013.
